According to golf legend Jack Nicklaus, “Good foot action is the mark of an accomplished golfer. All timing, distance, and direction comes out of the lower body with the feet leading the way.”
Not only is foot motion of great importance to the game of golf, the average round of 18 holes involves several miles of walking.
“Since August is ‘National Golf Month’ it may help to remind golfers of the importance of their feet and shoes to the game they’re trying to master,” says Xenna Corporation (www.xenna.com) CEO Carol J. Buck.
Golfers should plan to do a comprehensive check of foot gear at least once a year, and do a check of their feet much more often.
“Focus on wear-out of shoes or sandals. Performance soles, waterproofing and how well the shoes continue to support a golfer’s feet and legs should all be checked, at least yearly,” Buck advises. “No one can expect to play a great game of golf with worn foot gear. When signs of wear appear, it’s time to invest in a new pair.”
When it comes to foot care, Buck advises everyone – not just golfers – to commit to a daily foot care regimen.
“Rough, cracked heels are a good example of a common foot problem, especially for those who participate in sports, such as golf. Since foot comfort is an important issue, the solution is to keep feet in top shape. An added bonus is having nice-looking feet off the green, too.”
