Industry: Healthcare

Astrid Research Inc. last Friday presented its state-of-the-art computer algorithm for reference assembly of SOLiD data in color space.

Debrecen, Hungary (PRUnderground) October 14th, 2010

Astrid Research Inc. last Friday presented its state-of-the-art computer algorithm for reference assembly of SOLiD data in color space. The presentation took place at the 2nd High Throughput Sequencing Workshop in Szeged, Hungary organized by SeqOmics Ltd and sponsored by Life Technologies. The new algorithm is based on graph theory backed by artificial intelligence methods.

The reference assembly algorithm, which is implemented in Java, was validated by capillary sequencer technology at Baygen Institute, the largest genomics research organization in Hungary. The validation showed that the algorithm has found all SNPs and InDels that were detected by the capillary sequencer.

“After understanding the chemistry of SOLiD and the nature of color space, we used advanced mathematical instruments to create the algorithm. We are really enthusiastic about the 100% accuracy that the validation has proved. “. said Edit Tukacs, Head of Algorithm Development Group at Astrid Research Inc.

The new algorithm will be part of Astrid Research’s flagship NGS data analysis platform, called GenoMiner.
