After Don Tingey graduated from The George Washington University Law School, his close friend and fellow GW grad, Harry Reid, encouraged Tingey to move to Nevada. Tingey agreed and opened up his Las Vegas law firm in 1969. Reid went on to become a U.S. Senator from Nevada, and Tingey went on to become one of the most successful personal injury lawyers in the greater Las Vegas area. This month, Tingey’s firm is celebrating its 54th anniversary and its status as one of Vegas’ oldest and most well-respected law firms.
“My wife and I liked what we saw in the Las Vegas area, but we had no idea that we would make it our forever home,” said Tingey. “We fell in love with the area, raised our 12 children here, and developed a strong sense of care for the people that I represented as an accident injury attorney.”
Tingey worked at an insurance agency during law school to support his young family, which changed the trajectory of his law career.
“My work in the insurance industry exposed me to accident victims who weren’t getting a fair settlement,” said Tingey. “They had not asked to be victims, and yet their lives were completely upended. I saw how Big Insurance was adding insult to injury by not giving people the settlements they deserved. Victims were twice wounded: once by the accident injuries and again by the financial distress they were forced into.”
By opening Tingey Injury Law Firm, Don Tingey was able to advocate for victims and get them the medical care and financial compensation they deserved for lost wages, medical bills, property damage, and pain and suffering. Whether victims have been injured in vehicle crashes or pedestrian accidents, at the hands of negligent hospital or nursing home staff, or in the workplace, Tingey and his fellow accident attorneys guide them through the legal claims process, helping them get the compensation they are legally entitled to.
Tingey Injury Law Firm’s staff has grown from a single secretary in 1969 to to a team of 35, including five attorneys. Two of the attorneys, Bruce and Dean Tingey, are Don Tingey’s sons, and a third attorney, Oliver Tingey, is Bruce’s son and Don’s grandson.
In 2006, Don Tingey was given the National Trial Lawyer Association’s Badger Award for a career built on “going above and beyond the call of duty” for his clients. In 2017, he was honored with the Nevada Justice Assocation’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
Don Tingey still works at the office a day or two a week, overseeing the thriving personal injury law firm that he has built over 54 years. He built an unparalleled legacy of fighting for clients. That same fighting spirit has been passed down at Tingey Injury Law Firm, where the team is known for fighting for clients with expertise, strength and integrity.
