Alpenglow Expeditions, one of the leading mountain guide companies in the country, appealed to its loyal climbing community today for support by offering discounted gift card purchases for “future adventures.”
The request to assist this small and fiercely independent guide company to stay viable as the COVID-19 pandemic plays out, came in a heartfelt letter from world-acclaimed mountain guide and founder and CEO of Alpenglow Expeditions, Adrian Ballinger. Because of the COVID-19 outbreak, Alpenglow Expeditions has needed to cancel its entire roster of upcoming expeditions – including its popular springtime Mount Everest summits – through May 2020.
The letter, addressed to mountain climbers and other outdoor thrill-seekers, laid out the desperate circumstances his and other supporting businesses face in light of the health crisis. In the letter, Ballinger urged the community to “keep dreaming big” and, if at all possible, ensure that quality tour companies, like Alpenglow Expeditions, are ready to step-in once the crisis ends, with the same talented expeditions leaders and support teams intact.
Ballinger expressed how critical this support is because his guides are a main source of avalanche safety training in the area, and he fears COVID-19 has the potential to wipe out Avalanche education in the Sierra.
“No one likes to see a climbing season shut down, but we all know it was absolutely the right move to make,” says Ballinger from his home in Olympic Valley where he, like all the Alpenglow office staff, are working remotely. “Our goal now is to make sure the expert systems and teams we have in place can weather out this pandemic, so we’re ready to gear up again once it’s safe to do so.”
For a limited time, the future adventure gift cards are available at a 5% discount. They can be used on everything from an Alpenglow Expeditions hoodie to an Everest North Side Expedition. They are completely transferable, so purchasers can be given as presents to family and loved ones. Gift cards are only valid at Alpenglow Expeditions and Tahoe Via Ferrata and cannot be redeemed or returned for cash.
“I strongly believe that during these times of uncertainty and even fear, it’s important to hold on to our ideals,” says Ballinger. “We thrive on challenges, no matter what shape those challenges take, which is why I know, helping one another, we’ll all get through this one together.”
Alpenglow Expeditions is a Lake Tahoe-area based guide service that offers professional climbing adventures around the world to all levels of enthusiasts. It is offering all its clients the ability to transfer their reservations to next year’s climb or offer the balance of refundable costs.
