A Tribe For Jazz announced today that they would receive a resolution from Councilmember, Lourdes Barroso de Padilla of Columbus City Council, in honor of Jazz Appreciation Month and International Jazz Day. Stephanie Matthews, Executive Director of A Tribe For Jazz, will accept the resolution at the City Council meeting on Monday, April 17, 2023, at 5:00 pm. Her statement will be televised live on C-TV and live-streamed on the City of Columbus YouTube channel.
“We are honored to receive this recognition for our work in celebrating Jazz Appreciation Month and International Jazz Day,” said Stephanie Matthews, Executive Director of A Tribe for Jazz. “We believe that Jazz is more than just a genre of music – it is a cultural force that has shaped our society in countless ways, and Jazz Appreciation Month celebrates the extraordinary heritage and history of jazz.”
Jazz Appreciation Month was created in 2001 at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, and International Jazz Day in 2011 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), officially designated as April 30 and the culmination of Jazz Appreciation Month. Both are intended to draw public attention to jazz and its impact on the world. “Jazz unites people in all corners of the globe, and we look forward to doing the same with our events in April,” said Matthews. All will be free and open to the public.
