It has been an exciting year for A Tribe for Jazz, and the impact of the organization has sparked lasting change; redefining how music, education, and community unite. In the recently released 2024 Impact Report, key areas of growth, impact, and education are highlighted to reinforce the mission of preserving the legacy and advancing the future of Jazz.

As a trailblazing organization, 2024 has been a revolutionary year that has broadened the educational scope for this genre of music, advancing Jazz for present and future generations. As a champion for equity and inclusion, A Tribe for Jazz has created engaging and creative programming that has increasingly grown its audience to include individuals of all ages, races, and backgrounds. Celebrating 3 years of Jazz leadership, the organization is excited to share the transformative things that have transpired throughout the year.

2024 Highlights Include:

  • Educational Innovation: The launch of the Jazz Lab™ Mobile Pilot Program, funded by the Battelle Central Ohio STEM Grant, brought hands-on STEM and music education to students in underserved communities during out-of-school time (OST). With a focus on creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration, the program will reach 10 schools and is projected to serve more than 800 interactive experiences.
  • Community Partnerships: In 2024, A Tribe for Jazz formed 12 new partnerships, including collaborations with COSI, PAST Foundation, Columbus City Schools, and Otterbein University.
  • Live Performances and Visual Storytelling: The 2024 Columbus International Jazz Series featured 16 performances by celebrated rising jazz stars, attracting over 2,200 attendees and showcasing international artists like Miki Yamanaka and Roni Eytan. A Tribe for Jazz also garnered prestigious recognition for its film Exploration, which was selected for the Los Angeles Film and Documentary Awards and the Waterford Film Festival in Ireland.

“We transcended expectations over the past three years, redefining how jazz, education, and community can come together as a catalyst for both transformation and innovation,” said Stephanie Matthews, Executive Director of A Tribe for Jazz. “The future calls us to reimagine what’s possible, and we are excited through the diversity of our work to continue shaping how Jazz music can be used in life-changing ways.”
