New 80mpg Ford Focus Econetic Coming Soon in 2012

So with the recent announcement of the latest Ford Focus Econetic for 2012, which features a desirable fuel consumption of 80mpg and reduced CO2 emissions of ‘less than 95g/km’, it is sure to be a hit in these frugal times.

This new Ford Focus Econetic model originally made its debut to trade and the press early this year at the Amsterdam Motor Show. The new Econetic Focus model is powered by an all-new 1.6-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-charged diesel engine and produces 104bhp.

Other fuel saving features and options available are the aerodynamic upgrades which include low-rolling resistance tyres, low-drag wheel covers, a revised final drive for top gear, Ford’s ‘Auto-Stop-Start’ function and a shift light indicator to achieve its headline grabbing figures.

In the aerodynamic package you can have the option of the ‘Active Shutter Grille’, this system uses vents to control airflow to the engine compartment, which will open to allow airflow if needed. It is reported this new system can reduce CO2 figures by a claimed two per cent.

The engine Econetic engine features a redesigned common-rail fuel injection system, a completely new water-cooled intercooler which replaces the standard conventional air-to-air system. It allows a more accurate control of the charge in air temperatures and improves power of the engine. There is also a ‘Diesel Particulate Filter’, topped off with a six-speed manual gearbox which is now a standard feature.
