Foodstiks: Wood Cutlery Is A Viable Alternative To Replace Plastic
Industry: Food & Drink
Florida based company plans to replace single use plastic cutlery with compostable wood cutlery.
ST Petersburg, FL (PRUnderground) June 11th, 2019
Foodstiks was created in direct response to the growing plastic waste epidemic. The Florida based company is determined to become the leading source for wood disposable cutlery.
“Wood cutlery is currently the only sustainable alternative to plastic disposables.” says Ina Henderson, co-founder of Foodstiks. “It is 100% natural, 100% re-newable and 100% compostable.”
Single use plastic has increasingly gained notoriety as environmental hazard and is being banned in many US cities and states. That poses a supply challenge to the food service industry. “In the US every day 100 Million pieces of plastic cutlery are used, which need to be replaced with sustainable alternatives” explains Henderson further. “We are here to fill the void.”
Foodstiks launched operations in 2017 with the goal to make sustainable alternatives to plastic cutlery competitive and widely available. The utensils are made from FSC certified White Birch wood. The same material that has been used for decades to make tooth picks or popsicle sticks. Foodstiks currently ships out of their warehouse in Central Florida, but plans to open 4 more warehouses across the US in order to quickly and efficiently supply their customers.
Foodstiks are currently offered in bulk quantities as individual forks, knives, spoons, taster spoons and 4 piece sets for take out and delivery. In July Foodstiks will be launching its 60 piece retail box that will be offered in their online store and in specialty food stores. Learn more on www.foodstiks.com
