2018 National Tutor of the Year Offers Free SAT Math Prep

Demand for SAT Prep has increased significantly after the test became a requirement to graduate high school in Michigan.

Earlier this year, DiagKNOWstics founder Rohen Shah was named the 2018 National Tutor of the Year. The award is presented biannually by the National Tutoring Association.

Shah, a former Detroit math teacher, began creating adaptive learning software for mathematics and economics after a decade of tutoring the subjects. This fall, his company is offering SAT Math prep for free to 6 high schools in Detroit and 3 in Chicago.

“The video explanations are very easy to follow, and it’s nice to have a video immediately after every mistake,” said Jaonda Hughes, a senior in Detroit who has been using the SAT platform.

“The test prep program was a huge success with my students,” said Caryn McCarthy, a guidance counselor at New School High, one of the pilot sites last year. “Our students were easily able to take practice tests and work on specific areas where they needed improvement,” she added.

“The biggest issue with a lot of the current test prep material is that it isn’t customized to the individual,” said Shah. “Our hope is to try to diagnose a student’s weakest areas and prioritize those.”

Shah, a 2-time graduate of the University of Michigan, first gained national attention last year after making a series of viral math rap songs under the name MC SKULE. His math rap videos have received over 2 million views on Facebook.

“We welcome schools and parents to reach out to us if their students would like to try out our platform,” said Arshabh Sarda, CTO of DiagKNOWstics. “Our goal is to constantly improve the product based on continual student feedback.”
