The newest project at San Juan College was construction of the $15.7 million dollar, 65,000 square foot School of Energy building, begun a little more than a year ago, and expected to be completed by June of this year.
The school will house oil and gas industry training classes. It was designed by Dekker/Perich/Sabatini and is being built by Albuquerque-based Jaynes Corporation. About $6 million for the building came from the State of New Mexico, $2 million generated by San Juan College, and $8.6 million was donated by over 12 energy-related companies.
The building will include an additional 150,000 square feet of exterior instructional lab yard space.
Other projects underway and in preparation focus on modernization, renovation, and construction in other areas of the campus. $4 million for projects comes from a state bond passed in 2014 and $3 million was generated by a county bond passed in February of this year. New projects will include lab space for the School of Science, Math and Engineering.
The College is currently seeking architectural services to iniate the $7 million worth of renovations and new projects.
