Kefentse 1ST Set to Light up the Airwaves

Reggae crooner, Kefentse 1^ST, is back at it again with a fresh-sounding track that has been released in time for the festivities of the season going into 2017. The track, called “I Like It” was recently launched by the singer’s Imperial Music Entertainment company, along with Blaza Music Group.

“I Like It” is a slow-grooving, soulful love song in which the singer talks about the effect a new love prospect is having on him. It is a classic boy-meets-girl storyline that many can relate to, and the hook and melodic delivery of Kefentse 1^ST allows the song to flow smoothly over the one-drop reggae beat. Lasting three minutes and twenty-two seconds, the song is an easy listen that can be played during a long ride, as well as included on a jamming party playlist.

Kefentse 1^ST, whose real name is Michael Smith, has been on the comeback trail since 2015, when he released “The Specialist,” a laidback, conscious song that garnered much attention after being played on Video Alley and TVJ’s Entertainment Report. That track put the spotlight back on Kefentse 1^ST, who has been in the music business for over 40 years, but took a break to focus on his family.

The singer, who is also a songwriter and producer, came to public knowledge in the early 1970s after performing an ad for the then JAMAL’s “Into the Light” Literacy Programme. He proceeded to join forces with Michael Ranglin, as well as Junior and Alton Smikle in forming the group Super Classic during the 1980s. The group became known for tracks such as “Reggae Music Gone International” and performed at a number of venues across Jamaica and the United States.

Coming off the success of “The Specialist,” Kefentse 1^ST is expecting to take his career to a new level with the release of “I Like It.” The song is produced by Golden Kid of Blaza Music Group and can be heard on his SoundCloud page.
